You know the saying, “birds of a feather flock together”, well this is true. What and who you surround yourself around is what you become. What you constantly listen to is what you will speak. What you need to realize is it is so important to guard your heart: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23. I had an experience where I surrounded myself around someone who had a strong spirit of grief, depression, and shame over him. One evening of surrounding myself around darkness and negativity allowed the spirit to transfer onto me. The entire time I was hearing words of negativity, defeat, and shame from his mouth. When I tried to refute his remarks, his response came with a “but…” followed by many excuses. When we departed my heart was heavy and I felt like how I did when I battled with depression. It was like a wave of my past, and quickly I recognized this spirit is not of me. I quickly rebuked Satan and his devices and began to cry out with praise, prayer, and worship on my car ride home. I realized this experience was good and bad. I felt exactly how he was feeling and what Satan was doing to him in this season, but I realized no matter how strong you think you are, some spirits are demonic and powerful, and only the name of Jesus and His power is able to protect us. It is real, what and who you surround yourself around and listens to determines much.
